Innova Hockey started in the year 2005 under Mr Hamim Bin Abdul Rahman, former teacher in charge for the Yu Hua Highfliers and Mr Roland Chua Yew Gee, a former player during his JC days in SAJC.
The first captains were: Wei Kang for the boys and Nina Sabrina for the girls. The coach was former national goalkeeper and then national coach, Mr Ronnie Yeo.
In 2006, Mr Joshua Tan, a former player in RJC, NUS and then playing for SHF Club C&C United joined as 3rd Teacher-in-charge.
Several milestones occurred in 2006.
The team was given the nickname "Hypernovas" because of the incredible amount of dedication and passion they had. At one point of time, the hockey team was training TEN times a week, with morning and afternoon sessions everyday.
2006 also saw the introduction of a special training kit. The yellow/blue and red/black design has become a tradition and is still in use today. Each batch now wears the Hypernova training jersey with pride and recognition.
The captains for 2006/2007 were: Muhd Khabir Hakim (Boys Capt), Chia You Ying (Boys Vice Capt), Edeline Phua Sze Hui (Girls Capt) and Cheryl Lee Pei Xia (Girls Vice Capt). The coach was Mr Gordon De Souza who plays for SHF club D'Masters.
2007 brought more milestones in Innova Hockey history. Former women's national player and current Crescent Hockey Club player, Rilaini Sapari joined Innova JC and became one of the teachers-in-charge, bringing with her invaluable experience and skills.
2007 saw the first ever tie-up between Innova Hockey and SHF Club C&C United. Several boys played in SHF Divison 2 alongside vastly more experienced players to develop their skills and game understanding. This experience was to prove useful as the boys clearly improved and they exceeded the accomplishments of their predecessors in the 'A' Divisions.
The captains for 2007/2008 were: Zulkarnain Hussein (Boys Capt), Zulhilmi (Boys Vice Capt), Emil Fazira (Girls Capt) and Ruseedia (Girls Vice Capt). The coaches were Mr Gordon De Souza and Mr Al Faizale Rossellande who played for SHF club Strongchamps.
2008 was no less exciting as Innova Hockey began to branch out to secondary schools. Besides tie-ups with SHF clubs like Police and C&C United, the Hypernovas began to train players from Riverside Secondary School. Efforts were also made to engage Evergreen Secondary and Woodland Ring Secondary.
Under the guidance of the Hypernovas, Riverside Hockey did well in the inaugural Innova Hockey Invitational Tournament that saw them play against 6 invited school teams and finish 3rd despite just picking up the sport.
2008 also saw the first ever Hypernova Fiesta. 4 generations worth of Hypernovas met at the Hockey Village and played against each other. The boys team from the Class of 2008 and the girls team from the class of 2009 emerged as the champions of that inaugural tournament. It was indeed a moving sight to see such a big crowd of Innova Hockey alumni coming back to be a part of history.
The captains for 2008/2009 are: Zeng Heng Guang(Boys Capt), Mohd Asyraf (Boys Vice Capt), Elia Nurbaya (Girls Capt) and Janelle Lye (Girls Vice Capt). The coach is Mr Al Faizale Rossellande a.k.a "Ornet" who currently plays for SHF club Police.
2009 has started off with a bang already: The Hypernovas played in Hockey One's 5-a-side Tournament in the Men's and Women's Open category against top ranking clubs and schools.
The boys team led by Heng Guang faced experienced teams like Singapore Veterans and the Dutch club and emerged 5th out of a field of 16 quality teams. The girls led by Elia defied all odds to clinch the champion's trophy by beating UWC 3-2 in a nail-biting finals.
2009 has also seen Mr Joshua Tan add himself to the Singapore Hockey Federation's Register of Coaches.
February also witnessed an understanding between Innova Hockey and Woodlands Ring Secondary School to help set up and develop a hockey CCA there in 2009.
